Introduction and History of Kiltinan Castle Stud

Kiltinan was established as a stud in 1982 by Magee and Ogden White. In the ten years prior to 1993, the Whites had great success both in the sales ring and on the race track. They bred two group one winners, Sutton Place winner of the Coronation Stakes and Ivyana who won the Italian Oaks. They also won the Irish Oaks with Give Thanks. In 1992 Kiltinan topped the Houghton Sales when selling Falling In Love by Sadlers Wells ex Ivy for 430,000 gns.

In 1993 all the bloodstock was sold in a dispersal in which Ivy topped the sale for 450,000 gns and her daughter Ivyana sold for 410,000 gns. Kiltinan’s success during this period was all the more remarkable as they never had more than seven mares on the stud.

In 1995 Andrew and Madeleine Lloyd-Webber purchased Kiltinan following the death of Magee the same year. Andrew had first seen the Castle when he attended the wedding of his Racing and Bloodstock Manager Simon Marsh to Jane Ponsonby. Jane’s parents live locally. Since they purchased Kiltinan, the stud has been totally redeveloped bringing in all the available land. Since first selling mares at Tattersalls December Sales in 1998, Kiltinan has established itself as one of the leading vendors, handling the dispersal for Addison Racing in 2003. Success on the racetrack has continued with the likes of Group 1 winner Tante Rose who won the Haydock Spring Cup, Autumnal, Chiming, Bourbonnais, Bay Tree, Juliet, and Putra Sas who were all born and raised at Kiltinan.

Kiltinan’s location is ideal for broodmares visiting stallions based at Coolmore, Kildangan, Gilltown, The Irish National Stud and other studs in Kildare.
